Information:
Personal injury or death may result from failure to adhere to the following procedures.Fuel leaked or spilled onto hot surfaces or electrical components can cause a fire.Clean up all leaked or spilled fuel. Do not smoke while working on the fuel system.Turn the engine start switch to the OFF position.Turn the disconnect switch OFF or disconnect the battery when changing fuel filters.
Do not fill the fuel filters with fuel before installing the fuel filters. The fuel will not be filtered and could be contaminated. Contaminated fuel will cause accelerated wear to fuel system parts.
Note: The replacement interval for this filter is recommended at every 250 service hours or monthly for machines that meet the following conditions for severe applications:
Poor fuel storage or poor refueling procedures
Poor fuel cleanliness or low fuel quality
Dusty conditionsMachines that are operated in normal applications should follow the replacement interval of every 500 service hours or 3 months.The primary filter/water separator is located behind the access door on the right side of the machine.
Open the access door on the right side of the machine.
Shut off the fuel supply. Refer to this Operation and Maintenance Manual, "Fuel Tank Shutoff and Drain Control" for additional information.

Turn drain valve (4) counterclockwise to open. The drain valve is on the bottom of the water separator.Note: Refer to Operation and Maintenance Manual, "General Hazard Information" for information that pertains to containing fluid spillage.
Drain the water and the sediment into a suitable container.Note: If the water and sediment do not drain, open relief valve (1) on the top of the filter base.Note: Dispose of used fluids according to local regulations.
Close drain valve (4).
Disconnect wiring harness (3) from the sensor on the bottom of the bowl.Note: Do not attempt to remove the sediment bowl from the housing. The sediment bowl is permanently attached to the housing. Attempting to remove the sediment bowl may damage the bowl.
Remove housing (2) from the filter base.
Remove the filter element from housing (2). Discard the used filter.
Clean the inside surfaces of the filter base and housing (2).
Install the new filter element in the housing.
Apply a coat of clean diesel fuel to the sealing surface of the new filter element.
Install housing (2) to the filter base. Tighten the housing by hand.
Connect wiring harness (3) to the sensor.
Turn on the fuel supply. Refer to this Operation and Maintenance Manual, "Fuel Tank Shutoff and Drain Control" for additional information.Note: Do not start the engine until all service to the fuel system is complete. For instructions about priming the fuel system, refer to Operation and Maintenance Manual, "Fuel System - Prime".
Close the access door.
