Personal injury or death can result from sudden machine movement.Sudden movement of the machine or release of air pressure or oil pressure can cause injury to persons on or near the machine.To help prevent possible injury before testing and adjusting any air system or hydraulic system, perform the procedure in the Testing and Adjusting, "General Information" section.
Care must be taken to ensure that fluids are contained during performance of inspection, maintenance, testing, adjusting and repair of the product. Be prepared to collect the fluid with suitable containers before opening any compartment or disassembling any component containing fluids.Refer to Special Publication, NENG2500, "Caterpillar Tools and Shop Products Guide" for tools and supplies suitable to collect and contain fluids on Caterpillar products.Dispose of all fluids according to local regulations and mandates.
In order to test the automatic lubrication system for Wheel Loaders with the Vital Information Management System (VIMS), perform the following procedure.
Disconnect one lubrication line at a bearing.Note: If the automatic lubrication system is operating properly, lubricant will be ejected from this lube line. Care must be taken in order to ensure that the lubricant is collected in a suitable container.
Start the engine. In order for the automatic lubrication system to operate, the engine speed must be greater than 1000 rpm.
After an initial delay of two minutes, the VIMS will activate the automatic lubrication pump. When the automatic lubrication pump is operating, the pump can be heard or the pump can be felt. Within approximately 60 seconds, the automatic lubrication pump will turn off. The automatic lubrication system can be activated manually. In order to manually operate the lubrication system, the operator must enter "582626" or "LUBMAN" on the keypad for the VIMS. Then, the operator must press the "OK" key. The engine speed does not need to be greater than 1000 rpm for manually operating the lubrication system.
Stop the engine.
Lubricant should have been ejected from the disconnected lube line. Reconnect the lubrication line.The message center module for the VIMS can be used to display information about the automatic lubrication system. This information includes the following items: pressure of the lubricant, air pressure and status of the electric solenoid air valve. Also, the datalogger allows the operator to store information about the cycle of the automatic lubrication system. This information can be used for troubleshooting the automatic lubrication system.In order to start the datalogger, the operator must enter "3564" or "DLOG" on the keypad. Then, the operator must press the "OK" key. In order to start the cycle of the automatic lubrication system, the operator must enter "582626" or "LUBMAN" on the keypad. Then, the operator must press the "OK" key. After the cycle is complete the operator should enter "3564" or "DLOG" on the keypad in order to stop the datalogger. The operator must then press the "OK" key. This information can then be viewed by using the VIMS-PC software.Use the VIMS-PC software in order to view the information in real time.Note: For additional information about the VIMS, refer
