Removal Procedure
Care must be taken to ensure that fluids are contained during performance of inspection, maintenance, testing, adjusting and repair of the product. Be prepared to collect the fluid with suitable containers before opening any compartment or disassembling any component containing fluids.Refer to Special Publication, NENG2500, "Caterpillar Tools and Shop Products Guide" for tools and supplies suitable to collect and contain fluids on Caterpillar products.Dispose of all fluids according to local regulations and mandates.
Keep all parts clean from contaminants.Contaminants may cause rapid wear and shortened component life.

Loosen clamp (2) and remove breather assembly (1) from valve cover (4) .
Remove valve cover bolts (3) and remove valve cover (4) .

Check the condition of valve cover seal (5). If the seal is worn or damaged, use a new part for replacement.Installation Procedure

Note: Ensure that the transformers are aligned with the wiring harness socket and oriented to the center of the engine.

Install valve cover (4). Install valve cover bolts (3) .

Use the tightening sequence above to tighten the valve cover bolts to a torque of 14 4 N m (10 3 lb ft).
Install breather assembly (1) to valve cover (4) .
Tighten clamp (2) .
