Stopping the engine immediately after it has been working under load can result in overheating and accelerated wear of the engine components.If the engine has been operating at high rpm and/or high loads, run at low idle for at least three minutes to reduce and stabilize internal engine temperature before stopping the engine.Avoiding hot engine shutdowns will maximize turbocharger shaft and bearing life.
Stopping the engine immediately after working under load, can result in overheating and accelerated wear of the engine components.Refer to the following stopping procedure, to allow the engine to cool, and to prevent excessive temperatures in the turbocharger center housing and DEF injectors.
To allow the engine to cool gradually, operate the engine at low idle for 3 minutes.

(4) STARTNote: At any time during a delayed engine shutdown, the engine start switch may be turned to the ON position. The engine may be placed back into service.
Turn engine start switch key to the OFF position to stop the engine.
If the delayed engine shutdown is enabled, the engine will shut down after the machine is allowed to idle for a specified time. The delayed engine shutdown shuts down the engine if the following conditions are met:
The truck body is in the down position.
The transmission control is in the P position (parking brake applied).
The service brake is released.
The accelerator pedal is released.
The hoist control is not active.
The retarder lever is not applied.
The machine lockout is not active.
The autostall is not active.
Any of the service tests are not active.
The ambient temperature is above the minimum setting (to allow the engine to maintain temperature and warmup in cold-weather conditions).The delayed engine shutdown function does not shut down other systems, such as AC, which can run down the battery after idle shutdown.Park the machine and engage the parking brake. When the engine start switch is turned off, the engine will go into delay engine shutdown. Allow the delay engine shutdown to complete so that hot areas of the engine and aftertreatment can cool. The length of time of delay engine shutdown may vary depending on the temperature of the exhaust when the engine start switch is keyed off.An operator can move one of the controls to cancel a shutdown. Using the brake pedal to cancel a shutdown is the recommended option for the operator.Before the delayed engine shutdown shuts down the engine, the following will occur:
The action light will flash.
A popup screen appears on the display screen.
Never turn the battery disconnect switch key to OFF with the engine running. Electrical system damage could result.

Do not turn off the battery disconnect switch until the indicator lamp has turned off. If the switch is turned off when the indicator lamp is illuminated the Diesel Exhaust Fluid (DEF) system will not purge the DEF. If the DEF does not purge, DEF could freeze and damage the pump and lines.
Turn the battery disconnect switch (1) to the OFF position. Remove the disconnect key, and secure
