Additional J1939 connection information to consider:
A terminating resistor must be connected to both ends of the J1939 communications bus for proper operation of the network.
16 AWG or 18 AWG common harness wire should be used for wiring the J1939 network as a twisted pair with 1 full twist per inch.
Use good wire routing and wire securing practices to avoid damage to the cable. Refer to Special Instruction, REHS5171, "Guidelines for Routing and Installing Wire Harness Assemblies".
Run cable away from high power and high frequency sources to avoid injecting electrical noise into the wiring.
Each device installed on the J1939 network should have power system electrical connections such that the devices all share a common ground (battery -).Environmental Consideration
Avoid installing units in environments where severe mechanical vibration or shocks are present, acceptable range are: vibration not to exceed 4 Grms and shock 15g.
Do not operate the unit in areas subject to explosion hazards due to flammable gases, vapors or dusts.
Do not install the unit where acid gas, such as SO2 exists.
When installing the display in an enclosure cabinet (with glass or Plexiglas doors) ensure that it is not exposed to UV and infrared rays. The internal temperature where the HMI is installed should always be -30° to 70°C (-22° to 158°F).
Humidity needs to be 5% - 85% non-condensedNote: If the HMI needs to be installed in a hot location with additional infrared and UV rays, the option will be to purchase from a non-Cat vendors UV and IR blocking films to put on the outside windows of the panels to reduce the temperature where the HMI is installed.Configuration/Flash Instructions
There are two sets of instructions for updating the operating system software for the HMI:

Download the HMI software flash file from SIS web onto a USB thumb drive. There will be four files in a zipped format. The PC should automatically extract the files. If the PC does not, 7-Zip is the preferred windows application for Catpillar.Note: The files cannot be placed in a folder, the files must stay separate on the thumb drive.
The HMI must be powered up.
Proceed to Display settings Tab, and select Technician login.
In the Login Popup, the user name should be "Technician", first-time Password is "12345", select "OK".
Select "DIM IP Settings" and write down current IP address and network Mask, then click "Cancel".
Select "Controller IP Settings", then select the controller from the list, then select settings. Document all pertinent settings from the integrated controller.
Power the HMI down.
Plug in the USB thumb drive into 1 of the 3 USB ports.
Power the HMI up.
