Remove vibration damper.
Remove water pumps.
Remove engine oil filter.
Remove engine oil pump.
Remove prelubrication oil pump.
Remove priority valve.
Remove crankshaft front seal.
Remove front idler gears.
Care must be taken to ensure that fluids are contained during performance of inspection, maintenance, testing, adjusting, and repair of the product. Be prepared to collect the fluid with suitable containers before opening any compartment or disassembling any component containing fluids.Refer to Special Publication, NENG2500, "Dealer Service Tool Catalog" for tools and supplies suitable to collect and contain fluids on Cat® products.Dispose of all fluids according to local regulations and mandates.
Keep all parts clean from contaminants.Contaminants may cause rapid wear and shortened component life.

Loosen bolts (1) so that there is a 3.17 mm (0.125 inch) clearance between the following components: the cylinder block, front housing, rear housing, and the oil pan. Be careful not to damage the oil pan gasket.

Remove bolts (2) that hold the oil pan to the bottom of the front housing.

Remove bolts (4), bolts (8), idler shaft (3), and idler shaft (7).
Remove bolts (6) and cover (5).
Remove bolts (9) and cover (10).

Remove bolts (11) and cover (12).

Attach a suitable lifting device to remove front housing (13).
Remove bolts (14), front housing (13) and the gasket. The weight of front housing (13) is approximately 265 kg (584 lb).

Remove plug (15), plug (16), plug (18), and the O-ring seals.
Remove sleeves (17) and the O-ring seals.

Remove plugs (19) and the O-ring seals.

Remove plug (20) and the O-ring seal. Installation Procedure
Install front housing (13) in the reverse order of removal.
Apply Tooling (A) to the threads of plug (18).
Lubricate the bores of sleeves (17), idler shaft (7), idler shaft (3), and cover (5) with the lubricant that is being sealed.
