ARC solenoid circuit This diagnostic code indicates the brake ECM has determined the automatic retarder control (ARC) control solenoid voltage is above normal.This code can be caused by:
Shorted circuit
Failed ECMNote: The following test procedure may create other diagnostic codes. Ignore these codes, correct the original code, then clear these created codes. Note: Use a calibrated digital multimeter for this procedure.System Response:
Rear retarder control solenoid always de-energized
Brake ECM is not able to energize the rear retarder control solenoid
ARC operates using the front retarder control solenoid
ARC operates at a reduced level of performanceTest Step 1. CHECK FOR A SHORT
Turn off the keyswitch and the disconnect switch.
Disconnect the harness from the solenoid.
Disconnect harness connectors J1 and J2 from the brake ECM.
At the J1 harness connector for the brake ECM, measure the resistance from contact J1-60 (wire H862-GY ) to all J1 and J2 contacts that are connected to the +battery.Expected Result:Each resistance is greater than 5 ohms. Results:
OK - Each resistance is greater than 5 ohms. Proceed to Test Step 2.
NOT OK - A resistance is less than 5000 ohms. There is a short between signal contact J1-60 (wire H862-GY ) and the circuit with low resistance.Repair: Repair or replace the harness.STOPTest Step 2. CHECK THE DIAGNOSTIC CODEThe switches remain off.The harness remains disconnected from the ECM.
Verify that the harness connector contacts are:
Clean
Dry
Corrosion free
Reconnect all harness connectors.
Turn on the disconnect switch and the keyswitch.
Operate the machine.
Check CID 1608 FMI 03.Expected Result:CID 1608 FMI 03 is not active.Results:
OK - CID 1608 FMI 03 is not active. Repair: CID 1608 FMI 03 was probably caused by a poor connection at one of the connectors that was disconnected and reconnected.Return the machine to service.STOP
NOT OK - CID 1608 FMI 03 is active. The brake ECM may have failed.Repair: Exit this procedure.Perform this procedure again. If the failure is not found, contact your technical communicator. If ECM replacement is required, see Testing and Adjusting, "Electronic Control Module (ECM) - Replace".STOP
