4F G G G The position sensor for the transmission gear is an input to the ECM. The sensor connects to contacts J1-29, J1-30, J1-31, J1-32, J1-33 and J1-36. The sensor signals the ECM the transmission gear that is active. The sensor is connected mechanically to the rotary actuator of the transmission. The sensor has a connector with nine contacts.The sensor contacts (2, 3, 6, 7, and 8) signal the ECM the current gear information. In each position of the rotary actuator, the sensor provides a low signal (0.5 DCV) at two of the five contacts. The sensor also provides a high signal (5.0 DCV) at the other three contacts at the same time. The ECM interprets the status of the five contacts.The number one contact of the sensor provides the ECM with a ground. The number one contact is connected to ground at all times telling the ECM that the sensor is connected properly.Contact 10 of the sensor is connected to the ECM return J1-36. Contact 4 of the sensor is connected to the sensor power supply at all times. Contact 9 is not connected. The position for connector contact 5 is blank. This blank space is an index for the mating connector.The ECM records diagnostic codes that occur with the sensor as a CID 0700. A record is made of the diagnostic code if the combination of switch signals is invalid.Transmission Oil Pressure Sensor
Illustration 7 g03551156The oil pressure sensor for the transmission is configured in the Caterpillar Electronic Technician (ET) as "Installed". The sensor is used to activate the alert indicator when the oil pressure drops below a preset value. The sensor is also used in order to engage the parking brake when the oil pressure drops below a preset value. The parking brake is also engaged if the sensor has failed. Once the parking brake is engaged, the parking brakewill remain engaged and the alert indicatorwill remain activated until the oil pressure rises above a preset value. The operator must then cycle the parking brake switch from the ON position to the OFF position in order to disengage the parking brake. If the sensor is configured in ET as "Not Installed", the sensor will not be used to engage the parking brake automatically.Note: If the machine needs to be towed and the transmission oil pressure is low, use the ET in order to disable the sensor.The Caterpillar Monitoring System will allow a temporary override of the sensor in order to keep the parking brake from engaging.
