Start By:
Remove the ripper tilt cylinders. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "Ripper Tilt Cylinder - Remove and Install".
Remove the ripper lift cylinders. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "Ripper Lift Cylinder - Remove and Install".
Remove the ripper carriage. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "Ripper Carriage - Remove and Install".
At operating temperature, the hydraulic tank is hot and under pressure.Hot oil and components can cause personal injury. Do not allow hot oil or components to contact skin.Remove the filler cap only when the engine is stopped, and the filler cap is cool enough to touch with your bare hand. Remove the filler cap slowly in order to relieve pressure.
Care must be taken to ensure that fluids are contained during performance of inspection, maintenance, testing, adjusting and repair of the product. Be prepared to collect the fluid with suitable containers before opening any compartment or disassembling any component containing fluids.Refer to Special Publication, NENG2500, "Caterpillar Tools and Shop Products Guide" for tools and supplies suitable to collect and contain fluids on Caterpillar products.Dispose of all fluids according to local regulations and mandates.
Note: Put identification marks on all lines, on all hoses, on all wires, and on all tubes for installation purposes. Plug all lines, hoses, and tubes. This helps to prevent fluid loss and this helps to keep contaminants from entering the system.

Place Tooling (C) under guard plate (1) .
Remove four bolts (2) from the bottom of guard plate (1) and remove guard plate (1). The weight of the guard plate is 105 kg (230 lb).
Install Tooling (B) .

Place Tooling (A) under the ripper frame.
Attach a suitable lifting device to Tooling (B) .
Lower the ripper frame on Tooling (A) .

Remove grease lines (3) from the frame pins.

Remove two bolts (4), plate (6), and pin (5) from each side of the ripper frame.
Remove the ripper frame. The weight of the ripper frame is 1589 kg (3500 lb).Installation Procedure

Install Tooling (B) and attach a suitable lifting device to Tooling (B) .
Position the ripper frame. Lower the ripper frame on Tooling (A). The weight of the ripper frame is 1589 kg (3500 lb).

Install pin (5), plate (6), and two bolts (4) in each side of the ripper frame.

Install grease lines (3) to the frame pins.

Remove the suitable lifting device from Tooling (B). Leave Tooling (A) in place.

Install guard plate (1). Install four bolts (2) to the bottom of guard plate (1).
Remove Tooling (C) .
Remove Tooling (B) .
