Reference: Special Instruction; SEHS9734; Retrofitting R-12 Air Conditioning To R-134a Refrigerant. The new R134a refrigerant is available from various suppliers in different locations. Some of the refrigerant container fittings have the 1/2Acme thread fittings, which will mate with Caterpillar R-134a service tools. Some other R-134a container fittings have 7/16threads, which were formerly used with R-12 refrigerant.
If possible, obtain R-134a containers from your supplier with the 1/2Acme threads. If R-134a containers with 1/2Acme threads are not available in your area, obtain a 1/2Acme to 7/16adapter from your local air conditioning equipment supplier.
Use caution not to add R-12 refrigerant to systems equipped with R-134a refrigerant. The two refrigerants are not compatible.
