(6) Steering stop plate. (7) Forward setscrew. (8) Rearward setscrew.
Setscrews (7) and (8) are used to adjust the steering time. The setscrews limit the amount of pilot pressure that is available to the steering control valve when the machine is near full articulation. The amount of pilot pressure that is available controls the amount of impact between the front frame and the rear frame at full articulation.The pilot pressure at full articulation should be checked after the steering time has been set for left turns and for right turns.
Start the engine.
Turn the machine to the left until the machine is fully articulated. Hold the steering wheel firmly against the steering stop in the steering column.Note: The steering wheel should be held with a tight grip. If the steering wheel is held too lightly against the stop, the pressure reading will be too low. If the steering wheel is held with too much force against the stop, the pressure reading will be too high.

(9) Quick disconnect for left steer pilot pressure. (10) Steering control valve. (11) Quick disconnect for right steer pilot pressure. (12) Hydraulic tank (right side of machine).
Check the pilot pressure at quick disconnect (11). The pilot pressure should be 2068 kPa (300 psi).Adjusting setscrews (7) and (8) will change the available pilot pressure at full articulation. Adjusting the setscrews will affect the steering time of the machine. Adjusting the setscrews will affect the amount of cushioning between the front and rear frames when the frames contact each other.Note: Turning setscrew (7) or (8) clockwise will increase the steering time and the cushion effect at the frame stops at full articulation. The pilot pressure will be decreased. The opposite is true when the setscrews are turned counterclockwise.Reference: Refer to Testing and Adjusting, "Steering Time - Check and Adjust" for more information.
Articulate the machine fully to the right and repeat the above procedure. Check the pilot pressure at quick disconnect (9).Note: Do not disassemble the pilot valve and do not adjust the pilot valve. The pilot valve is not serviceable. The pilot valve can only be set by using a computerized test stand.If the steering times are not within specifications after the completion of the above procedure, adjustment of the margin pressure may be required.Reference: Refer to Testing and Adjusting, "Piston Pump (Steering) Margin Pressure - Test and Adjust" for the correct procedure.
