Introduction
The steering check is used to measure the diameter of the turning circle of a machine. The measurement is used to determine if the steering system is functioning properly.Check Preparation
Move the machine to a flat, dry open area. Be sure to limit the amount of track slippage while the machine is turning. Make sure that the steering linkage is adjusted.Check Procedure
Start and run the engine at LOW IDLE. Raise all the implements to the FULL RAISE position and return the levers to the HOLD position.
Release the parking brake and put the transmission in FIRST SPEED FORWARD.
Run the engine at HIGH IDLE.
Place the steering control handle in the full steer left position. Keep all implement controls in the HOLD position.
Make a full 360 degree turn.
Stop the machine after the full turn. Lower all implements to the ground and stop the engine.

Measure the distance (A), as shown. Distance (A) should be 1.4 to 2.0 m (4.6 to 6.6 ft).
Repeat steps 1 through 7 with the steering control handle in the FULL STEER RIGHT position.
If the measured distance is within the specification, the steering hydraulic system is operating correctly. If the distances are not within the specification, proceed to Step 11.
Repeat Steps 1 through 6 with the steering control handle in the FULL STEER RIGHT and the FULL STEER LEFT positions. Also, hold the bulldozer control lever in the FULL RAISE position.
Measure distance (A), as shown. Distance (A) should be 1.4 to 2.0 m (4.6 to 6.6 ft).
If distance (A) is not within the specification, refer to Troubleshooting, "Steering System".
