Start By:a. remove bladeb. remove scraperc. remove drum1. Disconnect the steering cylinders. 2. Block the tires. Using jack stands, block and level the machine. 3. Install tool (A) and attach a hoist. When removing bearing housing (2), bushings (3) may fall out if present.4. Remove two bolts (1) and bearing housing (2). If necessary, pry the bearing housing up from the steer pivot. 5. Inspect bushings (4) in bearing housing (2). Check the clearance with a feeler gauge. The clearance should not exceed 0.762 mm (0.03 in). If worn or damaged, replace using pusher bolts in the pusher bolts holes of the housing to force bushing (4) out of the housing.6. Carefully raise the yoke assembly enough so the steer pivot clears the frame. Back the yoke away from the frame.7. Block and stabilize the yoke. 8. Inspect bushing (5) with a feeler gauge. If the bushing is worn or damaged beyond 0.3048 to 0.761 mm (0.012 to 0.030 in) tolerance, the bushing must be replaced by driving it out of the frame. 9. Attach a hoist to steer pivot housing (6) and to steer pivot (7) to prevent unexpected movement.
Removing the pivot housing before attaching a proper lifting device may cause personal injury.
10. Remove steer pivot housing (6) by removing four bolts (8) and shims (9), (if present). 11. Inspect bushings (10) in pivot housing (6) and check the bearings and cup clearance with a feeler gauge. The clearance should be between 0.3048 to 0.761 mm (0.012 to 0.030 in) tolerance. If not within the specification, the bushings must be replaced. To remove the bushings, push them out of the housing using pusher bolts in the pusher bolt holes. The following steps are for the installation of the pivot assembly.12. Make sure the machine is blocked and properly supported on a level surface.13. Run grease through the grease zerks to clean the passages. Be sure all parts are clean and free of foreign material prior to assembly.14. Using a hammer and a piece of wood to prevent damage to the bushings, carefully drive bushings (3) into the mainframe and bearing housing (2).15. Using the same method, carefully drive bushings (10) into steer pivot (7) and pivot housing (6).16. Examine the pins and the bushings in the steering cylinder ears. The tolerance may be in excess of 0.762 mm (0.030 in) but the pins and bushings should be replaced if visible signs of wear or damage are apparent.
Handle the pivot housing and the steer pivot carefully, the massive weight present can result in serious personal injury or damage.
Be careful to avoid damage to the bushings while driving the pivot housing onto the yoke pivot shaft.17. Carefully hoist pivot housing (6) into position on the yoke.18. Hoist steer pivot (12) to housing (6) and position it on the yoke pivot shaft, being careful not to damage the bearing.19. If present during disassembly, install the original number of shims (9).
