Install spacer (17) onto axle housing (18).
Verify that all of the components and the O-ring seals are clean and free of foreign material prior to installation.
Inspect all components for wear and replace the components, if necessary.

Install housing (16) into spindle assembly (6), as shown. Install Tool (B) through the hole in spindle assembly (6) and through the hole in housing (16) in order to ease installation of the magnetic sensor.
Install ring (15) into housing (16), as shown.

Install eight bolts (13) and the washers in order to secure guide (14) to the inside of spindle assembly (6).
Remove Tool (B).
Illustration 4 g00631576Note: Ensure that the mounting surface of spindle assembly (6) and the mounting surface of rear axle housing are free of paint and of grease prior to installation.
Attach a suitable lifting device to spindle assembly (6). Secure the lifting device to a hoist. Position spindle assembly (6) to the rear axle housing. The weight of spindle assembly (6) is 1270 kg (2804 lb).
Install 38 bolts (12) and the hard washers in order to secure spindle assembly (6) and the O-ring seal to the rear axle housing.

Install three bolts (10) and the hard washers in order to secure plate (11) to spindle assembly (6).
The following procedure is used to determine the required thickness of shims for the magnetic sensor:

Install adapter (8) into spindle assembly (6). Tighten adapter (8) to a torque of 55 7 N m (40 5 lb ft).
Use Tool (C) (not shown) to measure distance (X). Record this measurement.
Remove adapter (8) from spindle assembly (6).
Subtract the measurement that was recorded in Step 11.b from 242.03 0.08 mm (9.53 0.003 inch). This is the thickness of shims that are required.
Use a micrometer to assemble shims (7) that are equal to the thickness that was calculated in Step 11.d.

Apply 155-0695 Thread Lock Compound to the threads of adapter (8). Install magnetic sensor (3), adapter (8) and shims (7) as a unit into spindle assembly (6). Tighten adapter (8) to a torque of 55 7 N m (40 5 lb ft).
Apply 5P-3413 Pipe Sealant to the threads of magnetic sensor (3). Tighten magnetic sensor (3) to a torque of 30 4 N m (22 3 lb ft).
Install plate (1), two bosses (9), two bolts (5) and the hard washers to spindle assembly (6).

Connect wire harness (4) to magnetic sensor (3). Tighten the nut clockwise with Tool (A) (not shown). Insert the lockwire to the next hole in the endbell in the clockwise direction.
Install the clip, bolt (2), the two hard washers and the nut in order to secure wire harness (4) to plate (1). End By:
