Generator Front Bracket - Remove
Start By:
Remove the generator from the engine. Refer to the "Generator - Remove" section of this document.
Remove the coupling and the generator drive hub. Refer to the "Coupling - Remove" section of this document.
High-density plastic strips must be placed between the main stator and the main rotor. The strips are needed in order to protect the components when the generator is disassembled from the engine. Damage may occur to the components upon disassembly if the rotor is allowed to drop against the stator.
The minimum length of the protective strips must be the length of the main rotor. The protective strips must be the correct thickness in order to allow support of the rotor during the removal of the generator end bracket. The strips must also allow support of the rotor after the generator end bracket has been removed. Ensure that the strips are directly under to rotor poles heads. The protective strips will assist in maintaining rotor alignment with the generator end bracket, in order to allow the housing to be removed.
Remove the PMG rotor prior to the removal of the front bearing bracket. The main rotor shaft can be damaged if the main rotor is allowed to drop on to the stator while the PMG rotor is still attached.
The "Resistance Temperature Detector" (RTD) must be removed before the front bracket is removed. If the RTD is not removed before the front bracket is removed, then the RTD will be damage.
Remove the hub (1).

(8) Alignment Mark for the Close Coupling Adapter to the Front Bearing Bracket
Install a suitable lifting device on the close coupling adapter.
Make an alignment mark (8) from the close coupling adapter (3) to the front bearing bracket (4). Remove the close coupling adapter mounting bolts (5).
Remove the close coupling adapter (3). Note: The removal of the close coupling adapter is optional for some installations. That is, removal of the close coupling adapter is not needed in all installations.
Install a suitable lifting device on the front bearing bracket (4).
Place the same type of protective strips (13) that are discussed at the beginning of this section in the two "Notice" paragraphs. The protective strips (13) must be placed between the main rotor and main stator.

Remove the RTD.

(14) Location of the Resistance Temperature Detector (RTD)
Remove the mounting bolts that attach the front bearing bracket to the generator stator housing.
Use a pry bar in order to separate the front bracket and the rear bracket from the generator. Some front brackets have provisions which allow the use of forcing screws. Remove the front bracket from the generator. Note: The bearing sleeve (23) should come off with the generator end bracket (22). However, the bearing should remain on the main rotor shaft.
The "Resistance Temperature Detector" (RTD) must be removed in order to allow sleeve removal from the bracket. If the sleeve
