Introduction
A new oil seal with hydrodynamic grooves is used in jacket water pumps for 3500 Engines. The new seal will eliminate wear on the water pump shaft. The new 8C5236 Seal replaces the former 2P6286 Seal used in the water pump.Reference: Service Manual, Parts Book.Installation
1. Refer to the Service Manual for your engine for the procedure to remove and install the jacket water pump.2. After removal of the jacket water pump, proceed with the disassembly of the pump as instructed in the Service Manual.3. Install the 8C5236 Seal with dust lip toward the impeller and with the cardboard sleeve in place.
The cardboard sleeve is required to slightly stretch the inner diameter of the seal to prevent seal damage when installing the pump shaft. Remove the cardboard sleeve only when ready to install the shaft.
4. Remove the cardboard sleeve and slowly push the shaft into position so the sealing surface of the seal can slide onto the shaft. The seal material will shrink to fit the shaft after installation.5. Complete the assembly and installation as outlined in the Service Manual.
