Service Brake ControlNote: The propel hydrostatic transmission has a built in braking ability that is applied anytime the propel lever is moved toward the NEUTRAL position. This is the primary braking system on the machine. Use the brake pedal only when additional braking is required.When you operate the machine, the service brake pedal is used in order to stop the motion of the machine. When the brake pedal is partially applied, the hydrostatic transmission is placed in the NEUTRAL position. When the pedal is fully depressed, the machine brakes are applied.Note: When you release the brake pedal, the machine will accelerate to the previously set speed unless the propel lever is moved to the NEUTRAL position.

Schematic for the Service Brake (1) Service brake control (2) Inlet port from auxiliary manifold (3) Line to hydraulic tank (4) Service brake valve (5) Brake lineThe service brakes are controlled by a control valve that is released by a spring and applied hydraulically. The operator will depress service brake control (1). This allows hydraulic flow to dump into service brake valve (4) from port (2). Supply line (5) will then carry the hydraulic oil to the service brakes. Hydraulic oil will flow from service brake valve (4) and dump to the hydraulic tank through supply line (3).

Front Axle (6) Axle housing (7) Service brakesService brakes (7) or ground drive axle brakes are rotor brakes (caliper). Service brakes (7) are mounted on axle housing (6). Hydraulic pressure is supplied by the hydraulic auxiliary pump. The service brakes are controlled by service brake valve (2).

Cross-Sectional View of Service Brake (8) Brake pads (9) Piston (10) Rotor (11) CaliperIf the service brake control (1) is pressed, the swashplate in the propel pump is destroked and hydraulic pressure goes to service brake pistons (9). Pressure reaches both pistons (9) through passages in caliper (11). The pressure on pistons (9) forces brake pads (8) against rotor (10). When service brake control (1) is released, pressure is relieved on pistons (9). Brake pads (8) allow rotation of brake rotor (10). This happens as pressure from pistons (9) is removed.
