Ether is poisonous and flammable.Breathing ether vapors or repeated contactof ether with skin can cause personal injury.Use ether only in well ventilated areas.Do not smoke while changing ether cylinders.Use ether with care to avoid fires.Do not store replacement ether cylinders inliving areas or in the operator's compartment.Do not store ether cylinders in direct sunlightor at temperatures above 39°C (102°F).Discard cylinders in a safe place. Do not punctureor burn cylinders.Keep ether cylinders out of the reach of unauthorizedpersonnel.To avoid possible injury, be sure the brakesare applied and all controls are in Hold or Neutral when starting the engine. Inject starting aid (ether), only whilecranking the engine.
Automatic Metered Ether Injection System Operation
Start the engine with the ether starting aid inthe AUTOMATIC position. The Ether Aid system will deliver needed measuredinjections automatically. The engine RPM may fluctuate until the enginespeed has reached idle. Once the engine reaches low idle, the engine shouldrun smoothly and white smoke should stop. Allow the engine to warm up atlow idle for a minimum of five minutes before operating the machine. At temperatures above 15°C (59°F),the use of ether is not normally necessary. Regardless of the switch position,if the jacket water coolant temperature is above 15°C (59°F), etherwill not be injected. At temperatures between -18°C (0°F)and 15°C (59°F), one to six injections of ether may be required.The Ether Aid system will deliver needed measured injections automatically. When starting the engine below -18°C(0°F), use a new container of ether to make sure that there is adequatedelivery pressure.
