This Instruction gives the procedure for installing a larger crankshaft torsional damper for D5B SA AG Tractors that have 7W0997 Variable Horsepower Engine Arrangement. This Instruction is applicable to tractors that have the above engine arrangement with or without 1P6898 Reversible Fan Group and/or 1P6436 Sand Blast Grid Group.Reference: Service Manual, Parts Book & Operation and Maintenance Manual.Necessary Parts
Removal of Original Equipment
1. Remove the hood, exhaust stack, air cleaner and/or turbo stack from the machine.2. Remove the crankcase guard. See the Service Manual for the disassembly procedure.3. Remove the fan, radiator and radiator guard. See the Service Manual for the disassembly procedure 4. Remove the damper and pulley assembly (1). See the Service Manual for the disassembly procedure.5. Loosen air conditioner drive belt (2), if equipped.6. Remove alternator pulley (3).7. Remove fan adapter (4) and fan drive (5).Installation of New Damper
For Engine Arrangements Without a Sand Blast Grid Group
1. Place 2P9632 Damper Assembly (1) on the crankshaft. 2. Place 7E6439 Crankshaft Pulley (2) on damper assembly (1).3. Install 7B5163 Bolt and 5P8248 Washer (3) loosely on the crankshaft.4. Install four 0S1585 Bolts (4) into the damper assembly (1). Torque the bolts to 102 N m (75 lb ft).5. Torque bolt (3) to 312 27 N m (230 20 lb ft), then hit with a hammer and tighten again to 312 27 N m (230 20 lb ft). This procedure may need to be repeated several times to make sure the bolt is at the proper torque. Check the torque on 0S1585 Bolts after 7B5163 Bolt is torqued correctly. 6. Install 7E6442 Alternator Pulley (5) with original hardware. Torque the nut to 102-122 N m (75-90 lb ft). 7. Install the original seal, spacers, hub and bearings into 7E6440 Fan Pulley (6). Inspect the seal and bearings closely for signs of excess wear. Replace as necessary. 8. Install pulley (6) on shaft. Put original washer (7) and two bolts (8) in place. 9. Install fan adapter (9) in place and tighten with the original nuts. If your engine has a reversible fan, install 8N7015 Fan Adapter instead of original adapter (9). Inspect the seal to see if a replacement is necessary. Lubricate shaft and bearing as per the Operation and Maintenance Manuals. 10. Install the air conditioner belt and tighten, if equipped. 11. Install 7E6441 V-Belt Set (10) and tighten. 12. Place 7E1514 Spacer (11) in position on adapter (9). Line up the spacer holes with the holes on the adapter flange. If the machine has a reversible fan group use a 7E6443 Spacer. 13. Edge (A) on the upper half of the fan guard may need to be modified for clearance. Remove approximately 12.7 mm (0.50") off the guard at (A).14. Install the fan, radiator and radiator guard. For machines without a reversible fan group use six 0S1591 or 0S1590 Bolts (see PARTS NEEDED chart) to secure the fan. For machines with a reversible fan group use six 0S1591 Bolts to secure the
