Apply 5P-0960 Molybdenum Grease on pin assembly (18). Use a hoist and a lifting sling to position pin assembly (18). Temporarily install the spacer and pin assembly (18). The weight of the pin assembly is approximately 48 kg (105 lb). Note: Do not remove the hoist from the boom cylinder at this time.

Slide the boom cylinder to one side until the boom cylinder contacts the frame. Measure the total clearance between the boom cylinder and the frame at the pin bore. The total clearance of (a) and (b) may not be more than 1.0 mm (0.04 inch). If the total clearance is less than 1.0 mm (0.04 inch), the addition of shims between the boom cylinder and frame will not be required. If the total clearance is more than 1.0 mm (0.04 inch), add the correct thickness of shims in order to obtain the necessary clearance.
After the boom cylinder has been properly shimmed, install the spacer and pin assembly (18). Install bolt (17). The weight of the pin assembly is approximately 48 kg (105 lb).

Lower boom cylinder (4) onto Tooling (B). Adjust the height of Tooling (B) so the boom cylinder is level.

Position support assemblies (16) and install bolts (15).

Use a lifting sling and a hoist to position boom cylinder (4). Raise the boom cylinder in order to align the rod end of the boom cylinder with the boom cylinder support pin.

Install Tooling (A) on the boom cylinder support pin on the opposite side of the boom cylinder that is being installed.
Use a hammer to drive the boom cylinder support pin into the rod end of the boom cylinder until the boom cylinder support pin is centered in the boom.

Position the spacer and retainer plate (3), and install bolts (2).
Remove Tooling (A). Repeat Step 15 in order to install the retainer plate on the opposite boom cylinder.

Connect lubrication hose assembly (1).
Fill the hydraulic oil tank with oil to the correct level. Refer to Operation and Maintenance Manual, "Lubricant Viscosities" for the proper oil viscosity and Operation and Maintenance Manual, "Hydraulic System Oil Level - Check".
Lubricate the boom mounting pin and the boom cylinder mounting pins. Refer to Operation and Maintenance Manual, "Boom, Stick and Bucket Linkage - Lubricate".
Start the engine, and run the engine at low idle speed. Move the joystick for the boom in order to extend and retract the boom cylinders. Cycle the boom cylinders approximately ten times in order to remove the air from the hydraulic system.
Recheck the oil level in the hydraulic oil tank. If necessary, refill the hydraulic oil tank to the correct level.
