PLATE- 4718134 - Caterpillar

1. Loosen the bolts that hold the oil pan plate to the cylinder block and install spacers (1) as shown.
Use care when the trunnion is removed and installed to prevent damage to the crankshaft front seal.
2. Remove the three bolts that hold trunnion (2) to the timing gear cover. Remove the trunnion. Remove the O-ring seal from the trunnion. 3. Remove alternator bracket (3) from the cylinder block. 4. Remove cover (4) and the O-ring seal from the timing gear plate.5. Remove the bolts that hold timing gear cover (6) in place. Carefully loosen the cover from the dowels and remove the cover. Weight of the timing gear cover is 48 lb. (22 kg).6. Clean the old gasket from the contact surfaces of the timing gear cover and timing gear plate.7. Install a new gasket on the timing gear plate. Cut the gasket even with the bottom face of the cylinder block. Put 5H2471 Gasket Cement on the bottom of the gasket where the gasket makes contact with the gasket for the oil pan plate. 8. Put timing gear cover (6) in position on the timing gear plate and install the bolts that hold it in place. Make sure the bolts in locations (5) and (7) are tightened to a torque of 17 3 lb.ft. (23 4 N m).9. Install cover (4) and the O-ring seal on the timing gear plate.10. Install alternator bracket (3) on the cylinder block.11. Put clean engine oil on the outside diameter of the crankshaft, the lip of the crankshaft seal and the O-ring seal for the trunnion.12. Put trunnion (2) and the O-ring seal in position on the timing gear cover and install the bolts that hold it.13. Remove the spacers between the cylinder block and the oil pan plate.
