Connections of the articulate right solenoidThis diagnostic code is associated with the articulate right solenoid. When the Implement ECM 2 detects a current that is below normal for the solenoid circuit, the ECM activates the diagnostic code FMI 05.The Implement ECM 2 provides a PWM signal to the solenoid in order to provide proportional control of the solenoid. The electrical current of the PWM signal is varied by the ECM, based on the input command that is received from the position sensor of the articulation lever. The sensor is located in the assembly of the left joystick. The following conditions could cause this diagnostic code to be activated:
The energizer circuit of the solenoid is open.
The return circuit of the solenoid is open.
The solenoid has failed.
The ECM has failed. This condition is unlikely. Before performing this procedure, inspect the harness connectors that are involved in the circuit. Poor connections can often be the cause of a problem in an electrical circuit. Inspect the connections for the following:
Connections are clean.
Connections are secure.
Connections are in good condition. If a problem with a connection is found, correct the problem and verify that this diagnostic code is active before performing this procedure.Note: The following test procedure may create other diagnostic codes. Clear these created diagnostic codes when the original diagnostic code has been corrected.Note: The resistance of the solenoid coil should be 8.7 0.4 ohms at 25 °C (77 °F).Test Step 1. CHECK THE SOLENOID
Disconnect the solenoid from the machine harness.
At the machine harness connector for the solenoid, connect a jumper wire from contact 1 (wire K788-GY) and contact 2 (wire H803-YL).
Turn the disconnect switch to the ON position.
Turn the key start switch to the ON position.Note: Do not start the engine.
Observe the status of the CID 2172 FMI 05 diagnostic code.Expected Result:The active diagnostic code changes from an FMI 05 to an FMI 06 diagnostic code when the jumper wire is installed. Results:
OK - The active diagnostic code changes from an FMI 05 to an FMI 06 diagnostic code when the jumper wire is installed. The solenoid has failed.Repair: The solenoid has failed. Repeat this Test Step "CHECK THE SOLENOID" in order to verify the solenoid failure. Replace the solenoid. Verify that the new solenoid corrects the problem.STOP
NOT OK - The CID 2172 FMI 05 diagnostic code remains active. The jumper wire does not affect the status of the diagnostic code. The solenoid is not causing the problem. Proceed to Test Step 2.Test Step 2. CHECK THE CIRCUIT FOR AN OPEN
Turn the disconnect switch to the OFF position.
Turn the key start switch to the OFF position.
Disconnect the machine harness of the ECM connector J1 from the ECM.
The jumper wire that was installed in the previous test step remains in place.
At the machine harness connector J1 for the ECM, measure the resistance from the return contact J1-55 (wire H803-YL) and the contact J1-68 (wire K788-GY) for the energizer circuit.Expected Result:The resistance is less than 5 ohms. Results:
OK - The resistance is less than 5 ohms. The
