Information:
When an event code is activated by the ECM, the following information should be recorded.
Obtain the following information from the operator:
The event and the time of the event.
Determine the operating conditions of the engine when the event occurs. Conditions such as engine rpm and load may be important.
Determine if there are any systems that were installed by the dealer or by the customer that could cause the event.
Verify that the event is not due to normal machine operation. Verify that the event is not due to error of the operator.
Check all fluid levels and all oil levels.
Troubleshoot and repair any active diagnostic codes. The following table lists the event codes that apply to the machine control system. The cause of the active EID is listed. Use the Cat ET service tool in order to determine the event codes that are active or logged.
Table 2
Event Codes for Machine ECM (MID 039)
Code (Level) Description Specifications and Possible Cause Recommended Action
E119 (1) Low Fuel Level Activates when fuel level < 10%. Amber fuel level status indicator will illuminate on.
Deactivates when fuel level > 18%. Status indicator light will turn off. Add fuel to the fuel tank.
E155 (2) High Torque Converter Oil Temperature Activates when TC oil temp > 130 °C (266.0 °F) for 5 sec Refer to Troubleshooting, "Power Train Oil Temperature Is High".
E179 (2) Alternator not Charging Alternator R terminal frequency drops below 60 Hz with the engine running. Refer to Troubleshooting, KENR5291, "Alternator will not charge" and Testing and Adjusting, KENR5291"Alternator - Test".
E192 (3) Steering System Malfunction Activates when ECM does not receive steering control handle position signals from the steering control handle position sensors. Check for active CID 1471, 1472, and 1473 diagnostic codes.
One of the steering pump solenoids has an active diagnostic code. Check for active CID 0727 or CID 0726 codes. Immediate safe shutdown required.
Refer to the troubleshooting procedure for the active diagnostic code and clear the active diagnostic code.
Refer to Troubleshooting, "Steering does not Function".
E256 (3) Steering Output Detected in Wrong Direction The machine ECM commands steering in a particular direction but the speed sensor for the steering motor detects motion in the opposite direction.
Check for and clear any active CID 1469 or CID 1470 diagnostic codes for the steering motor speed sensor input signal circuits. Immediate safe shutdown required.
Refer to the troubleshooting procedure for the active diagnostic code and clear the active diagnostic code.
Refer to Trouble shooting, "Steering does not Function".
E257 (3) Steering Output Detected with No Command Given The machine ECM is not commanding any steering, but the speed sensor for the steering motor detects motor speed. Immediate safe shutdown required.
Refer to Troubleshooting, "Steering does not Function".
E258 (3) No Steering Detected with Command Given The speed sensor for the steering motor does not detect motor speed in response to a steering command from the machine ECM. Immediate safe shutdown required.
Refer to Troubleshooting, "Steering does not Function".
E766 (2) Torque Converter Filter Plugged Filter restriction causes a pressure increase across the filter. This pressure increase causes
