Service the cups when 12.7 mm (0.5 inch) of dirt has collected in the bottom of either cup.Note: Severe operating conditions may require several inspections daily. Excessive engine wear is possible if the machine is operated with more than 12.7 mm (0.5 inch) of residue.

Detach the side clamps. Remove the oil collector cup (4) of the assembly.

Lift the removable element assembly (2) from the oil collector cup (4) .

Empty the used oil and remove the inner cup (3) from the oil collector cup (4). Remove the oil sludge from the oil collector cup (4). Clean the oil collector cup (4) as much as possible.

Reassemble the inner cup (3) into the outer cup (4). Refill both cups to the indicated oil level.Note: DO NOT OVERFILL THE CUPS. Overfilling means a loss of capacity. Underfilling means a lack of efficiency.

(2) Element assembly
Inspect the removable element assembly (2). Hold the element assembly (2) up to a strong light source. If you get a bright even light pattern through the wire element then the element assembly (2) is clean.

If the element assembly (2) is partially plugged then wash the element assembly (2) thoroughly with solvent.

Then blow out the element assembly (2) with compressed air.

Inspect the lower portion of the body assembly (1) and the center tube. When you service the oil collector cup inspect the lower portion of the body assembly (1). Refer to ""Servicing the Body Assembly"".
Reinstall the removable element assembly (2) to the serviced cups and the body assembly (1) .

You should remove the body assembly (1) if there is any sign of buildup or plugging. Proceed to clean the body assembly (1). You should clean the body assembly (1) at least yearly. Remove the body assembly (1) and perform the following steps:
Remove the oil collector cup (4) and removable element assembly (2) .
Check and clean the center tube.
Pump solvent through the air outlet with sufficient force and volume in order to produce a hard even stream out of the bottom of the body assembly (1). Then back flush the body assembly (1) until all the foreign material is removed.Note: Always cover the intake for the engine while the air cleaner is being serviced.
Be sure to remove all gaskets before cleaning.
