Installation Procedure
Keep all parts clean from contaminants.Contaminants may cause rapid wear and shortened component life.
Ensure that all components of the balance assembly are clean and free from wear or damage. If necessary, replace the balancer as an assembly.

If necessary, install dowels (8) to the cylinder block. Ensure that the dowels are correctly located into the cylinder block.
Position shim (6) and shim (7) onto the cylinder block. Ensure that the shims are correctly orientated.
Rotate the crankshaft so that number one piston is at top dead center on the compression stroke. Refer to System Operation, Testing and Adjusting, "Finding Top Center Position for No.1 Piston" for the correct procedure.
Rotate the crankshaft 90 degree in a clockwise direction. Note: Rotating the crankshaft 90 degree will position the crankshaft in the correct position for the installation of the balance assembly.
Align the timing Marks (X) on the gears for balancer (5). Refer to Illustration 2.
Position balancer assembly (5) onto the cylinder block. Ensure that the balancer is correctly located onto the dowels and is seated correctly onto the cylinder block.
Ensure the alignment of the Marks (X) on the gears for balancer assembly (5) are still correctly positioned. Refer to Illustration 2.
Install bolts (1) to balancer assembly (5). Tighten the bolts to a torque of 52 N m (38 lb ft) in the numerical sequence that is shown in Illustration 3.
Illustration 4 g03364261
Position tube assembly (2) onto the cylinder block and balancer assembly (5).
Install banjo bolt (3) and banjo bolt (4) to tube assembly (2).
Tighten banjo bolt (4) to a torque of 14 N m (124 lb in).
Tighten banjo bolt (3) to a torque of 14 N m (124 lb in). Ensure that the banjo bolt (3) is parallel to the edge of the block face as shown in Position (Y). If necessary, tighten the banjo bolt in order to achieve the correct orientation of the banjo bolt. End By:
Install the engine oil pan. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "Engine Oil Pan - Remove and Install" for the correct procedure.
