PLATE & FILM GP 5093798 - Caterpillar

1. Remove four bolts (1) that hold the center drive shaft to the yoke. Pull drive shaft (2) clear of the yoke. 2. Remove four bolts and nuts (3) and disconnect front drive shaft from the yoke assembly on the differential. Use two men to remove the front drive shaft. Weight of the drive shaft is 84 lb. (38 kg). 3. Remove bolt (4), spacer (5) then remove yoke assembly (6). Remove O-ring seal from spacer (5). 4. Disconnect grease line from retainer (7). Remove bolts (8), then remove retainer (7) from cage. 5. Remove lip type seal (9) from the retainer. 6. Install two 1/2"-13 NC forcing screws (11) in the bearing cage. Remove bearing cage (10) and bearing from the machine. 7. Remove O-ring seal (12) from the bearing cage. 8. Use tooling (A) and a press to remove the bearing from the cage.Install Front Drive Shaft
1. Use tooling (A) and a press to install the bearing in the cage. 2. Install O-ring seal (1) on the bearing cage. Put a small amount of 1P808 General Purpose Lubricant on the O-ring seal. 3. Put bearing cage (3) in position in the frame. Make sure that the opening (slot) (2) in the bearing cage is toward the top as shown. 4. Install lip seal in the retainer with tooling (A). Install the seal with the lip toward the front of the retainer. Put a small amount of 1P808 General Purpose Lubricant on the lip of seal. 5. Install retainer (5) on the bearing cage. Make sure grease fitting (4) is in alignment with the opening (slot) in the bearing cage. Install the bolts and nuts that hold the bearing cage and retainer to the frame. Connect grease line to the retainer. 6. Use two men and install the front drive shaft (6) as shown. Fasten the front drive shaft to the yoke assembly on the differential with the four bolts and nuts that hold it. Tighten the bolts to a torque of 100 11 lb.ft. (135 15 N m). 7. Install yoke assembly (7) on the drive shaft.8. Put a small amount of 1P808 General Purpose Lubricant on the O-ring seal. Install the O-ring seal in the yoke. 9. Install spacer (9) and bolt (8) in yoke. Tighten the bolt to a torque of 350 37 lb.ft. (470 50 N m).10. Connect center drive shaft (10) to the yoke and install the four bolts that hold it. Tighten the bolts to a torque of 100 11 lb.ft. (135 15 N m).
