There have been a number of isolated instances of bronze debris in the engine oil pan. These isolated instances have occurred in remanufactured engines.The 067-6899 Idler Gear Bushing is manufactured from a sintered bronze material. Particles that are eroded during initial life of the bush for the idler gear will fall to the area of engine oil pan. This may be observed as bright bronze dust at the bottom of the engine oil pan. Investigation has shown that the wear is of an acceptable level. The durability of the bush and the idler gear is not affected. This is a characteristic of the early life of the bush.Engines that are installed with bushes after July 2009 will utilize a new material specification with different characteristics of early life.Tests have shown that the dust should not travel with the lubrication oil from the engine oil pan. The dust will not reach the oil filter. The level of filtration that is provided by the specified Caterpillar oil filters will prevent any erroneous bronze dust from travelling beyond the filtration system. This will not affect engine performance or durability.
