If the track idler assembly is pulled more than 8 inches out of the track frame it may fall out of the guides.
1. Pull track idler assembly (1) from the track frame far enough to attach three nylon straps and a hoist as shown.2. Remove track idler assembly (1) from the track frame. The weight of the track idler assembly is 60 kg (132 lb). The following steps are for installation of the track idler assembly.3. Use a hoist and three nylon straps to position track idler assembly (1) in the track frame.4. Slide the track idler assembly about 5 inches inside the track frame. Remove the hoist and three nylon straps.5. Start By:a. remove track idler assembly 1. Remove two bolts (4). Remove recoil spring assembly (2) and two spacers (1) from idler assembly (3). 2. Remove cover (6) from plate (5) by grinding off the spot welds that hold it in place. 3. Position the recoil spring assembly on a press. Install Tool (A) in plate (5) to push against pin (7).
Before compressing the recoil spring, make sure Tools (A), (B) and (C) are in perfect alignment with the recoil spring assembly. If the tooling and recoil spring assembly are not perfectly aligned personal injury can be the result.
4. Install Tools (B) and (C) on pilot (8).5. Compress recoil spring (9). Use a magnet to remove two retainers (10) from pin (7). Slowly release compression on the spring. 6. Remove pilot (8), recoil spring (9) and pin (7) from plate (5). 7. Fasten a hoist and two nylon straps to the track idler assembly. Position idler (13) in a vise as shown.8. Remove two roll pins (11). Remove support (12) from the shaft.9. Remove the face seal from support (12). 10. Remove two roll pins (15). Remove support (16) from shaft (14).11. Remove face seal (18) from support (16).12. Remove shaft (14) from idler (13). Remove O-ring seals (17) from the shaft. Check O-rings for wear or damage. Replace if necessary. 13. Remove face seal (19) from both sides of idler (13). 14. Remove bearings (20) from both sides of idler (13). The following steps are for assembly of the track idler assembly.15. Install bearings (20) in both sides of idler (13). 16. Install face seal (19) in both sides of idler (13) as follows:a. inspect the face seal bores of the idler. Check for any rough spots or burrs and remove them by using fine emery cloth or stone. Inspect the face seals for wear or damage. Replace if necessary.b. Thoroughly clean the seal bores in the idler using isopropyl alcohol and clean cloth or paper towels.c. Clean the metal sealing rings and rubber elements of the face seals in the same manner. New face seals should be clean enough for installation; however, make a visual inspection for cleanliness and, if required,
