Information:
Avoid splicing or soldering wire connections. All connections should be terminated at terminal strips to ensure engine and communication systems reliability. Refer to the table below for the proper pin numbers for your engine arrangement. Engine Room Connections
1. Connect STBD and PORT Customer Connector CAT Data Link+ to the Engine Room Data Bus Terminal Strip #1 using 143-5018 CAT Data Link cable.2. Connect the STBD and PORT Customer Connector CAT Data Link- to the Engine Room Data Bus Terminal Strip #1 using 143-5018 CAT Data Link cable. The Engine Room Data Bus Terminal Strip #1 should be located as close as possible to the J3 Customer Connector to minimize the length of the data cable.

3. Connect CAT Data Link- from the Engine Room Data Bus Terminal Strip #1 to the Bridge Data Bus Terminal Strip #2 using 143-5018 Cat Data Link cable.4. Connect CAT Data Link+ from the Engine Room Data Bus Terminal Strip #1 to the Bridge Data Bus Terminal Strip #2 using 143-5018 CAT Data Link cable.
Figure 14 - Engine Room To Bridge Connections Proper wiring of the Cat Data Link System is essential for proper display operation. The CAT Data Link System should use 143-5018 CAT Data Link cable. The installation should use a dedicated terminal strip for the CAT Data Link connections. This terminal strip should be located to minimize the length of the CAT Data Link data wire run. There should be only one set of twisted pair data wires that run to the bridge displays. If a second station is to utilize a Caterpillar display group, then data wires should be installed from the engine room terminal strip to the first station and continued from the first station to the second station.Data Loop
Improper wiring of the Cat Data Link System will result in a Data Loop that will cause the CAT Data Link system to function improperly.Remote Service Tool Connector
The optional Electronic Service Tool Connection is not recommended on 3400C High Performance Marine Engines. An Electronic Service Tool will operate with the engine running, or with the engine OFF, keyswitch ON.Parts Required

1. Connect Switched +Battery to pin-A of the 9W1951 Service Tool Connector. Install 5 Amp circuit protection to protect the Electronic Service Tool.2. Connect -Battery Bus Bar to pin-B of the 9W1951 Service Tool Connector. Refer to the above tables for proper pin numbers for your engine application.3. Connect Customer Connector pin (ATA-) to pin-H of the 9W1951 Service Tool Connector.4. Connect Customer Connector pin (ATA+) to pin-J of the 9W1951 Service Tool Connector. Use 143-5018 Data Link Cable for data link wiring. The total length should NOT exceed 40 m (130 ft).Connecting Diagnostic Alarms And Lamps
The following is information on installing engine ECM driven alarms and lamps. These alarms and lamps may provide valuable warning information in addition to information and features provided by a display module. Refer to Electronic
