A propel motor is mounted at the rear of the engine compartment on either side of the machine. The engine compartment cover provides access to these components.Note: Right propel motor (3) is shown above. Each propel motor has a two-position swashplate. Shift valve (2) controls the position of the swashplate on each motor. When the swashplates are at the minimum angle, the motors produce low torque and high speed. When the swashplates are at the maximum angle, the motors produce high torque and low speed.Flushing valve (1) is mounted on top of the right propel motor. When the machine is moving and the pressure in the low pressure circuit is greater than 2400 69 kPa (350 10 psi), flushing relief valve (3) opens. The flushing relief valve allows 9.5 1.9 L/min (2.5 0.5 US gpm) of oil from the low pressure circuit to flow through the motor case drains.

Left propel motor (4) is mounted at the rear of the engine compartment on the left side of the machine. The engine compartment cover provides access to this component. The left propel motor is equipped with speed sensor (5). The speed sensor provides the input signal which operates the optional speedometer.Propel Motor in NEUTRAL
Illustration 3 g01122173
The propel motors are motors with a bent axis. The speed of this type of motor shifts when the angle of the motor is changed. The motor can be operated against either the minimum stop or the maximum stop. The minimum stop and the maximum stop can be adjusted in order to control the minimum and maximum motor speeds.A pressure differential between the forward and reverse ports of the motor causes the motor to rotate. When the propel pump is not generating flow, pressure in the forward and reverse circuits is equal to charge pressure. In this case, a pressure differential does not exist, and the motor will not turn. When the motor is not operating, the springs of the shuttle spool in the flushing valve move the spool into the center position. Also, the relief valve in the flushing valve is closed. In this condition, oil is trapped between the inner lands of the shuttle spool and the relief valve. No flushing flow occurs.Propel Motor in FORWARD, LOW SPEED Range
Illustration 4 g01122185
When the propel pump generates flow, a pressure differential exists between the forward and reverse sides of the propel motor. This pressure differential causes the motor to turn. When the shift switch is in the LOW position, the shift port is open to the tank. The springs of the control spool move the spool. In this situation, the control spool directs oil from the high pressure circuit into the cavity at the top of the actuator piston. The cavity at the bottom of the actuator piston is open to the motor case. The pressure differential between the top and the bottom of the actuator piston causes the piston to shift. This shift causes the control plate to shift against the maximum stop.Note: In
