This diagnostic code is recorded when the VIMS electronic control module reads the current of the display backlight return circuit and the current is above normal. Test Step 1. CHECK THE MACHINE HARNESS FOR A SHORT TO GROUND.
Turn the key start switch and the disconnect switch to the OFF position.
Disconnect the machine harness from the VIMS electronic control module. Disconnect the backlight lamps of the message center module and the speedometer/tachometer module.
Measure the resistance between connector contact J2-68 (wire 600-BR(Brown)) of the machine harness connector for the VIMS electronic control module and frame ground. Expected Result:The resistance is greater than 5000 ohms.Results:
OK - Resistance is greater than 5000 ohms. The harness circuit resistance is correct. The VIMS electronic control module has failed. Repair: Replace the VIMS electronic control module. Refer to the Testing and Adjusting, "Module-Replace" section.STOP
NOT OK - Resistance is less than 5000 ohms. The machine harness has failed. There is a short between frame ground and the display backlight return circuit in the machine harness. Repair: Repair the machine harness or replace the machine harness. STOP
