PROBLEM
The inlet to the brake system suction tube may be positioned too close to the bottom of the hydraulic tank. This condition results in significant flow restriction which may cause brake pump cavitation, system heating and system instability. Inspection of all in house tanks and three in the field have resulted in 17% having this issue. Caterpillar recommends that priority be placed upon any 793F Off-Highway Trucks which have previously experienced brake pump or brake filter failures (filter element may melt and deform). Any truck which has experienced a brake pump, filter failure or other indications of brake system instability should be inspected and corrected as soon as possible. All other trucks can be scheduled for this inspection at the dealer?s discretion.
