11 173-9684 Bolt Problem
Tilt cylinder head bolts may fail.Solution
Caterpillar is aware of this problem and is working towards a solution.Until the permanent solution is available check the tilt cylinder head bolt torque every 500 hours.The tilt cylinder head bolt static torque should be 800 N m (590 lb ft).If the tilt cylinder head bolt static torque is less than 800 N m (590 lb ft), follow the procedure below.

(1) 173-9684 Bolt
(2) Tilt cylinder
Remove 11 tilt cylinder head bolts (1).
Remove any oil and contaminants from 11 new 173-9684 bolts (1) and apply Tooling (A) to the threads.
Install 11 new 173-9684 bolts (1). Torque new 173-9684 bolts (1) to 900 100 N m (660 75 lb ft).
