The problem that is identified below does not have a known permanent solution. Until a permanent solution is known, use the solution that is identified below.Problem
Certain C2.2 Generator Sets may derate after running at low loads for an extended period. Operating the Exhaust Gas Recirculation (EGR) at 25% or lower loads for extended periods of time causes exhaust deposits of soot in the EGR valve assembly ( 456-4599 Valve). The EGR fault triggers an engine derate that causes the low frequency shutdown.Solution
Caterpillar is aware of this problem, but a permanent repair has not been identified. An updated software version which will address this issue is under development. As an interim action, clean the EGR valve assembly. Refer to Operation and Maintenance Manual, SEBU9405, "XQ35 Rental Generator Set" - , Maintenance Section - Exhaust Gas Recirculation Valve - Clean for instructions to clean the EGR valve.
