Which Generate This Code:The Engine Control Module (ECM) detects the following conditions:
For C7 engines that are not in emergency vehicles, the engine coolant temperature is at least 111° C (232° F) for more than four seconds.
For C7 emergency vehicles and for C9 vehicles, the engine coolant temperature is at least 116° C (241° F) for more than four seconds.
For C9 emergency vehicles with automatic transmissions, the engine coolant temperature is at least 121° C (250° F) for more than four seconds.
The engine has been running more than 30 seconds.Note: This diagnostic code represents a critical event. This diagnostic code does not represent an electronic system fault.System Response:"DIAG" will be displayed next to the "Engine Coolant Temperature"on the Caterpillar Electronic Technician (ET). The check engine lamp and the warning lamp will illuminate.If "Engine Monitoring" is programmed to "Derate" or "Shutdown", the check engine lamp and the warning lamp will flash.Customer passwords are required to clear this diagnostic code.The vehicle speed is limited to a maximum of 72 km/h (45 mph) and the power is limited. If "Engine Monitoring" is programmed to "Shutdown" the engine will shut down once this code has been active for 20 seconds.If "Engine Monitoring" is programmed to "Warning", there is no effect on engine power.This diagnostic code indicates an excessive coolant temperature. This diagnostic code does not indicate a problem with the ECM or a problem with the coolant temperature sensor.Test Step 1.
