Introduction
The problem that is identified in the Technical Information Bulletin that follows does not have a known permanent solution. Until a permanent solution is known, use the solution that is identified below.Problem
Complaints have been received during the field assembly and commissioning process that the machine fails to start. The 297-8752 Toggle Switch Gp may be wired incorrectly.Solution
Use the following procedure in order to verify that the Ground Level Engine Shutdown switch is functioning properly:

With the engine running, raise guard and move 297-8752 Toggle Switch Gp (1) up to the STOP position. This action will stop the engine. After the engine stops, lower the guard. Lowering the guard will turn the toggle switch to the RUN position. If toggle switch is functioning properly, no further action is required. If toggle switch is not functioning properly, proceed to Step 2 and Step 3.

Ensure that the 297-8752 Toggle Switch Gp (1) is oriented in correct position on 324-9778 Plate As (2). The toggle switch is correctly oriented, when toggle switch pin (3) and keyway (4) aligns with the hole in 324-9778 Plate As (2) as shown in Illustration 2.

Ensure that the toggle switch connector wires (5) as shown in Illustration 3 are aligned with correct mating connector wires on the 314-9562 Platform Harness As . The toggle switch white wire should be located in Position 1 on the toggle switch connector and aligns with the F716 WH wire in Position 1 on the mating connector on the 314-9562 Platform Harness As . The toggle switch black wire should be located in the Position 3 on the toggle switch connector and aligns with the F715 PU wire in Position 3 on the mating connector on the 314-9562 Platform Harness As .Note: The electrical schematic is being updated to reflect changes to the 297-8752 Toggle Switch Gp .Note: If the toggle switch connector wires are not positioned as previously described, the toggle switch is defective.If determined that the 297-8752 Toggle Switch Gp is defective, identify the machine serial number and return the failed Toggle Switch Group to Jim Cairns at the following address:Caterpillar Inc
