Fuel leaked or spilled onto hot surfaces or electrical components can cause a fire. To help prevent possible injury, turn the start switch off when changing fuel filters or water separator elements. Clean up fuel spills immediately.
Care must be taken to ensure that fluids are contained during performance of inspection, maintenance, testing, adjusting and repair of the product. Be prepared to collect the fluid with suitable containers before opening any compartment or disassembling any component containing fluids.Refer to Special Publication, NENG2500, "Caterpillar Dealer Service Tool Catalog" for tools and supplies suitable to collect and contain fluids on Caterpillar products.Dispose of all fluids according to local regulations and mandates.
Open the left side access door and turn the battery disconnect switch to the OFF position.

Loosen the clamp and remove hose (3) .
Loosen the clamp and remove hose (4) .
Drain the fuel from fuel filter (5) into a suitable container. Refer to Operation and Maintenance Manual for the correct procedure.
Use Tooling (A) to remove filter assembly (5) from filter base (2) .
Remove the filter element from filter assembly (5) .
Remove three bolts (1) and filter base (2) .Installation Procedure

Install fuel filter (5) in the reverse order of removal.
Prime the fuel system. Refer to Operation and Maintenance Manual for the correct procedure.
