The 5/04 - 5/05 processor provides backup power for the RAM. The battery is a replaceable lithium battery. The battery provides backup power for approximately two years. A " BATT LED" on the front of the processor alerts you when the battery voltage has fallen below a threshold level.Follow the troubleshooting procedures in this manual.Verify that the battery is the problem. Temporarily connect a new battery. Remove the old battery from the processor. Install the new battery in the processor.If the new battery resolves the problem, reconnect the old battery. Verify that the problem returns. If the problem returns, replace the old battery.Note: The 5/04 - 5/05 processors have a capacitor. Thirty minutes of backup power is provided by the capacitor. This functions while the battery is disconnected. Data in the RAM is not lost during the thirty minutes. Replacing a Battery
Disconnect the power supply.
To avoid damage to electronic components, do not remove the processor from the SLC 542/552 Chassis until all power is removed from the power supply.Do not expose memory modules to surfaces or areas that may typically hold an electrostatic charge.
Press the retaining clips at the top of the processor and press the retaining clips at the bottom of the processor.
Remove the processor from the chassis.
To avoid potential damage to the processor, handle all modules by the ends of the carrier or edges of the plastic housing. Skin oil or dirt can corrode metallic surfaces, inhibiting electrical contact.
Connect the new battery to the connector that is on the processor.
Align the processor and the guides in the chassis.
Gently slide the processor in the chassis. Secure the top retainer clips and secure the bottom retainer clips.
Install a wire tie in order to secure the wiring.

Cover any unused slots. This protects the chassis.
Verify that the new battery corrects the problem.
