Installation Procedure
Care must be taken to ensure that fluids are contained during performance of inspection, maintenance, testing, adjusting and repair of the product. Be prepared to collect the fluid with suitable containers before opening any compartment or disassembling any component containing fluids.Refer to Special Publication, NENG2500, "Caterpillar Tools and Shop Products Guide" for tools and supplies suitable to collect and contain fluids on Caterpillar products.Dispose of all fluids according to local regulations and mandates.
Thoroughly clean the mating surfaces of the left swing drive and the left swing motor.Note: O-rings, gaskets and seals should always be replaced. A used O-ring may not have the same sealing properties as a new O-ring. A reconditioning procedure should not be degraded because of a low cost component such as an O-ring or a gasket. Use 1U-6396 O-Ring Assembly Compound during the assembly procedure.
Replace the O-ring seal that is used between the swing motor and the swing drive.
Apply 1U-8846 Gasket Maker on the mating surface of the left swing motor and the left swing drive.

Fasten Tool (A) and a hoist to left swing motor (3), as shown. Put the left swing motor in the original position on the left swing drive. The weight of the left swing motor is 54 kg (119 lb).
Install bolts (6) that hold the left swing motor to the left swing drive.

Connect two hose assemblies (5) to the left swing motor. Tighten the hose assembly to a torque of 150 15 N m (110 11 lb ft).
Connect hose assembly (4) to the left swing motor. Tighten the hose assembly to a torque of 80 7 N m (60 5 lb ft).
Connect two hose assemblies (2) to the left swing motor. Tighten the two hose assemblies to a torque of 190 20 N m (140 15 lb ft).
Connect two hose assemblies (1) to the left hand swing motor. Tighten the two hose assemblies to a torque of 40 5 N m (30 4 lb ft).
Check the oil level in the swing drive.Reference: Refer to the Operation and Maintenance Manual, "Swing Drive Oil Level - Check" for the correct level.
The swing motor must be filled with the correct oil prior to operation.Failure to maintain proper oil level in the swing motor may result in damage to the motor.
Fill the hydraulic oil tank with oil to the correct level.Reference: Refer to the Operation and Maintenance Manual, "Refill Capacities" for the correct procedure.
Install high efficiency filters in place of the pilot filter, case drain filter, and the return filter.Note: High efficiency filters should not be run for more than 250 hours before you change back to the standard filters.
Start the machine, and check the operation of the swing drive. Check all hoses and fittings for leaks.
Obtain a hydraulic oil sample from the main S O S port.Reference: Refer to Operation and Maintenance Manual, "Sampling Interval and Location of Sampling Valve" for the correct location.
