Note: If a crack is not visible continue to remove material from the weld for the twister resister. Use air arc gouging to start from the 4 o'clock position until you reach the 8 o'clock position.
Use air arc gouging in order to remove a 10 mm (0.40 inch) deep section (D). The section must be the entire length of the crack. Refer to Illustration 13 for reference.Note: Make sure that you do not remove the weld all the way through the weld. The opposite side will be repaired later in this Special Instruction.

Weld the root pass directly in the affected areas. Continue to weld passes until the weld is built up to the original size. Refer to Table 2 for the correct welding parameters.Note: Allow each pass to cool completely. You may blow air on the weld in order to increase the cooling rate. Do not rush through the process. The bore (3) for the twister resister may be distorted if you do not allow each pass to cool completely.

Weld access plate (1) in position.Note: You may blow air on the bore for the twister resister in order to increase the cooling rate. Allow the material to cool before completing each pass in order to prevent distortion of the bore (3) for the twister resister.Note: If your weld around the twister resister is only cracked internally skip Step 9 through Step 10.

For external cracks, use air arc gouging in order to remove a 10 mm (0.40 inch) deep section (E) around the bore (3) for the twister resister. The section must be the length of the crack.Note: Make sure that you do not remove the weld all the way through the weld. The opposite side will be repaired later in this Special Instruction.
