Above 60°F (16°C)
1. D3 Track-Type Tractors and 931 Track-Type Loaders (931 shown): Move governor control to half engine speed. 1a. 910 Wheel Loaders: Depress accelerator pedal just past detent. 2. Turn start switch to START and crank engine. Release switch when engine starts (910 shown).
Do not crank engine for more than 30 seconds. Allow starter to cool for 2 minutes before cranking again.
Between 60°F (16°C) and 32°F (0°C) no starting aid should be needed. If starting aid is required, see next topic, Below 32°F (0°C).Below 32°F (0°C)
1. Repeat steps 1 and 2 as outlined above. 2. After cranking begins, push starting fluid control. Repeat every 2 seconds until engine starts. 3. When engine starts use additional starting fluid about every 2 seconds until engine runs smoothly.
Do not use excessive starting fluid during starting or when engine is running.
For starting below 0°F (-18°C), use of additional optional starting aids is recommended. Heating of coolant and/or use of extra battery capacity may be required. At starting temperatures below -10°F (-21°C), consult your Caterpillar dealer or refer to the COLD WEATHER OPERATION GUIDE.
