G3408 (6NB, 6RJ) G3412 (7DB, 3NK) EnginesDescription of Change: The new camshaft design eliminates the need of heating the camshaft gear during the assembly process. Heating the camshaft gear when mating it to the camshaft reduces the gear's hardness and lowers its resistance to pitting. The former camshaft diameter is 50.8 mm (2.00 in) with a 25 degree chamfer. When installing the camshaft gear on the former camshaft, the camshaft gear must be heated to a maximum temperature of 315 °C (600°F) when mated to the camshaft. The new camshaft design has a 50.4 mm (1.98 in) pilot diameter and tapers to a 50.8 mm (2.00 in) diameter. The camshaft gear should be cold pressed onto the camshaft with the new design.Adaptable To: The chart identifies the new camshafts that are available. Illustration 1.
