Component Code(s) 7423SUBJECT: 7X-6315 Ground Strap On Factory Installed Product Link Units Is Not Connected To Ground
PROBLEM:
The ground strap on factory installed Product link units are connected to an isolated mounting plate 178-8375. Since this plate is isolated from the frame ground, there is no path back to ground. If the ground wire on the harness fails, there is no backup ground to frame. This can cause hours of extensive troubleshooting. The engineering drawing (168-7314) calls off a short ground strap (7X6315), and does not show where to make the connection to the frame.
SOLUTION:
Connect the ground strap to the isolated mounting bolt, to get a frame ground.

Remove bolt (3). Disconnect ground strap (1).
Install ground strap (1) using bolt (2).
