Separation Procedure
Start By:
Separate the torque converter from the rear pump drive. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "Torque Converter and Pump Drive (Rear) - Separate and Connect".
Care must be taken to ensure that fluids are contained during performance of inspection, maintenance, testing, adjusting and repair of the product. Be prepared to collect the fluid with suitable containers before opening any compartment or disassembling any component containing fluids.Refer to Special Publication, NENG2500, "Caterpillar Tools and Shop Products Guide" for tools and supplies suitable to collect and contain fluids on Caterpillar products.Dispose of all fluids according to local regulations and mandates.
Note: Cleanliness is an important factor. Before the removal procedure, the exterior of the component should be thoroughly cleaned. This will help to prevent dirt from entering the internal components.

Position a suitable lifting device to the lift brackets on rear pump drive (1). Secure the suitable lifting device to a hoist.

Remove 22 bolts (2) that secure rear pump drive (1) to the engine. Separate rear pump drive (1) and the O-ring seal from the engine. The weight of rear pump drive (1) is 1247 kg (2750 lb).Connection Procedure
Keep all parts clean from contaminants.Contaminants may cause rapid wear and shortened component life.
Note: Verify that all of the components of the rear pump drive are clean and free of foreign material prior to installation.Note: Check all of the O-ring seals and the components for wear or damage. Replace the components, if necessary. Lubricate the O-ring seals lightly with the lubricant that is being sealed.

Position a suitable lifting device to the lift brackets on rear pump drive (1). Secure the suitable lifting device to a hoist.
Position rear pump drive (1) and the O-ring seal to the engine. The weight of rear pump drive (1) is 1247 kg (2750 lb).

Install 22 bolts (2) that secure rear pump drive (1) to the engine.End By: Connect the torque converter to the rear pump drive. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "Torque Converter and Pump Drive (Rear) - Separate and Connect".
