Introduction
The 0R0918 Remanufactured Oil Pump is the service replacement for the original 4N0733 Oil Pump used on the 3406 Engines listed above.The 0R0918 Remanufactured Oil Pump can be modified, according to the procedure given in this instruction, so it can also be used as a service replacement for the 4N8734 Oil Pump that is used on 3408 and 3412 Engines that are listed above.Modification Procedure
Identification Of Oil Pump Pressure Relief Valve Spring Retainers
Before the 0R0918 Remanufactured Oil Pump can be used as a replacement for the oil pump on a 3406, 3408 or 3412 Engine, it will be necessary to identify the pressure relief valve spring retainer that is on the Remanufactured Oil Pump.Use the illustrations that follow for retainer identification.
1. 1N3246 Oil Pump Relief Valve Retainer (part number is stamped on the top end of retainer).The 1N3246 Retainer is one of two retainers that may be used on the 0R0918 Remanufactured Oil Pump when it is received from the Parts Department.
2. 9Y1792 Retainer.The 9Y1792 Retainer is the retainer that is normally on the 4N8734 Oil Pump that is used on 3408 and 3412 Engines.
3. 9Y1800 Retainer.The 9Y1800 Retainer is the retainer that is normally installed on the 0R0918 Remanufactured Oil Pump.0R0918 Remanufactured Oil Pump
1. 0R0918 Oil Pump Group. 2. 1M0644 Bolt (two). 3. 9Y1800 Retainer. 4. 5M2894 Washer (two).1. 0R0918 Remanufactured Oil Pump (1) can have either a 9Y1800 Retainer or a 1N3246 Retainer as the retainer for the oil pressure relief valve spring. Retainer (3) is held in position by bolts (2) and washers (4).The 0R0918 Remanufactured Oil Pump can be used as a service replacement for the 4N0733 Oil Pump used on 3406 Engines.2. To modify a 0R0918 Remanufactured Oil Pump (1) for use as a service replacement for the 4N8734 Oil Pump used on a 3408 or 3412 Engine, proceed as follows. If necessary, use the dimensions shown in the previous illustrations to identify the retainers.* If the 0R0918 Remanufactured Oil Pump is equipped with a 9Y1800 Retainer, remove the retainer and do one of the following:A. Use the original bolts and washers to install a 9Y1792 Retainer over the pressure relief valve spring ... or ...B. Put a 4N8816 Spacer in position on top of the pressure relief valve spring. Position a 1N3246 Retainer over the spacer and pressure relief valve spring. Install and tighten the original bolts and washers to secure the retainer in position.* If the 0R0918 Remanufactured Oil Pump is equipped with a 1N3246 Retainer, remove the retainer:A. Put a 4N8816 Spacer in position on top of the pressure relief valve spring. Position a 1N3246 Retainer over the spacer and pressure relief valve spring.B. Install and tighten the original bolts and washers to secure the retainer in position ... or ...C. Use the original bolts and washers to install a 9Y1792 Retainer over the pressure relief valve spring.
