Information:
5. Fasten a lifting sling around the brake housing and attach the sling to a hoist. Remove bolts (1) and remove the brake housing from the final drive. Repeat this procedure for the second brake housing. 6. Place the brake housing in a press and using a drive plate, compress the piston in the brake assembly and remove snap ring (2). 7. Remove disc (plate) (3) from the brake assembly. Remove springs (4) from the brake assembly. 8. Remove piston (5) from the brake assembly. Remove seals (6). 9. Turn the brake assembly over and remove snap ring (7). 10. Remove plates and discs (8). 11. Using Tool (B) place the final drive on the lower section of Tool (A). Remove bolts (9) from gear (10). Using Tool (D) and forcing bolts (11), loosen and remove gear (10). 12. Secure Tool (D) to carrier assembly (12) and remove the carrier assembly. 13. Using Tool (G) remove snap ring (13). 14. Using Tool (F) remove gear (14). 15. Use Tool (G) to remove or expand snap ring (15) to allow for removal of carrier (16). 16. Remove bolt (17), ring (18) and disk (22).
Do not attempt to loosen nut (19). Nut (19) is under high torque and any attempt to remove it will result in damage to the threads of the spindle. Nut (19) must be removed by drilling and splitting.
17. Use a 1/4 in bit and a suitable magnetic drill to remove material from nut (19). Make sure that you drill directly across from the slot in the nut as shown. Use a suitable chisel to split nut (19). 18. Use Tooling (E) to remove ring (20) from the spindle. 19. Remove Duo-Cone seal (21) from ring (20). 20. Remove bearing assembly (23) from ring (20). 21. Remove Duo-Cone seal (24) from spindle (25). The following steps are for the installation of the final drive. Ensure that all parts of the final drive are thoroughly clean and free of dirt and debris prior to assembly. Check the condition of all O-ring seals used in the final drive. If any of the seals are worn or damaged, use new parts for replacement. Assemble the final drive on Tool (A). The rubber seals and all surfaces that make contact with the seals must be clean and dry. After installation of the seals, put clean SAE 30 W oil on the contact surfaces of the Duo-Cone seals.22. Thoroughly clean spindle (25) and ring (20) prior to assembly. Clean the threads of spindle (25). Nut (19) must spin freely on spindle (25).23. Install Duo-Cone seals (21) and (24). Refer to "Assembly And Installation of Conventional Duo-Cone Seals" in this module.
Bearing Assembly24. Place the new bearing assemblies on an inspection surface plate and obtain dimension (A) at three locations and determine the average dimension.
Ring25. Obtain dimension (B) at three locations and determine the average dimension.
Ring26. Obtain dimension (C) at three locations and determine the average dimension.
Disc27. Add dimensions (B) and (C) to obtain
