Removal Procedure
Do not use a wire rope cable that is kinked, frayed or has worn spots.Wear gloves when handling the wire rope cable.
Lower the boom to the ground and support the boom.

The boom is shown in a raised position for illustration purposes.
Remove clamp (4).
Remove the wedge and boom winch cable (3) from pocket (5).
Wind drum (1) in order to remove boom winch cable (3) from sheaves (2) and (6).
Unwind boom winch cable (3) from drum (1).

Remove wedge (7) and the boom winch cable from the pocket in drum (1). Installation Procedure
Do not use a wire rope cable that is kinked, frayed or has worn spots.Wear gloves when handling the wire rope cable.
Use 6 x 25 filler wire, preformed; right Lang lay, with an independent wire rope core. The wire cables are to have a minimal breaking strength of 18688 kg (41200 lb).

Unroll all of the hook winch cable from the spool. Lay the cable on a flat surface. Never lift the cable off the spool in coils.

Insert the end of the boom winch cable upward through the slot in drum (1). Form a loop and insert the boom winch cable end downward through the slot. Insert wedge (7) into the loop in the boom winch cable. Pull the boom winch cable in order to seat the wedge and the boom winch cable in the pocket.
Wind one half of the boom winch cable on drum (1). Wind the boom winch cable evenly across drum (1).

Install boom winch cable (3) to the boom in the following manner:
Install boom winch cable (3) from drum (1) to sheave (6). Install boom winch cable (3) around sheave (6) from the front side of the machine to the back side of the machine.
Route boom winch cable (3) to sheave (2). Install boom winch cable (3) around sheave (2) from the back side of the machine to the front side of the machine.
Insert boom winch cable (3) upward into pocket (5) and around the wedge. Then, insert boom winch cable (3) downward through pocket (5).
For standard 6 to 8 strand wire rope, extend the end of the cable by a minimum of 6 rope diameters, but not less than 15 cm (6 inch).
For rotation resistant wire rope, extend the end of the cable by a minimum of 20 rope diameters, but not less than 15 cm (6 inch).
The proper location of boom winch cable (3), the wedge, and clamp (4) is critical due to the loads upon this joint. Refer to illustration 5. Install clamp (4). Make sure that boom winch cable (3), the wedge, and clamp (4) are located properly.
