Each Generator Set Power Module is constructed to meet the electric power generation needs of the customer. There are four ratings associated with Caterpillar generator sets:* Standby* Prime + 10 percent* Prime* ContinuousThe rating is determined, based on hours of use and loading conditions. Chart A shows the limits of each rating. Units operating above these rating definitions will result in shorter life between overhauls.The Load Factor is defined as the sum of the loads the generator set experiences, while it is running under load, divided by the number of hours it operates under those loads.Charts B and C show the power capability ratings of Caterpillar generator sets at 50 and 60 Hz, respectively. The EkW output for these generator sets are tabulated to show the range of power available at each engine configuration and to highlight the difference in power available, based on generator set rating. For identical engines, standby units receive a higher kW rating than Prime or Continuous units, because the hours of operation will be less.
