Start By:a. install body retaining pins Fluid Spillage ContainmentCare must be taken to ensure that fluids are contained during performance of inspection, maintenance, testing, adjusting and repair of the machine. Be prepared to collect the fluid with suitable containers before opening any compartment or disassembling any component containing fluids. Refer to "Tools and Shop Product Guide, NENG2500", for tools and supplies suitable to collect and contain fluids in Caterpillar machines. Dispose fluids according to local regulations and mandates.
At operating temperature, the hydraulic oil tank is hot and under pressure. Hot oil can cause burns. Remove the breather filter cap only when the engine is stopped and the breather filter cap is cool enough to touch. Slowly loosen the breather filter cap to release any pressure in the hydraulic tank. Be cautious of hot hydraulic oil when any lines are disconnected in the hydraulic system.
1. Drain the oil from the rear section of the hydraulic oil tank. The capacity of the transmission tank is 80 liters (21.5 U.S. gal). 2. Disconnect transmission scavenge outlet hose (2) from the transmission charging pump.3. Disconnect hose (3) from the transmission scavenge inlet port.4. Disconnect transmission charge inlet hose (4) and transmission charge outlet hose (1) from the pump. 5. Attach Tool (A) and a suitable lifting device to the transmission charging pump as shown. Use a sling long enough that it will allow the pump to be lowered to the ground.6. Remove two bolts (5), and carefully lower the pump to the ground. Weight of the transmission charging pump is 32 kg (70 lb).7. Remove the O-ring seal from the pump. The following steps are for installation of the transmission charging pump:8. Put the O-ring seal in position on the pump around the lip seal.9. Position pump underneath vehicle and attach Tool (A) and a suitable lifting device. Carefully use lifting device to raise pump up in position on the pump drive. Install the bolts that hold it.10. Make sure the O-ring seals are in position in the ends of hoses (1), (2), (3) and (4).11. Connect transmission charging inlet hose (4) and transmission charging outlet hose (1) to the pump.12. Connect hose (3) to the transmission scavenge inlet port.13. Connect transmission scavenge outlet hose (2) to the pump.14. Fill the rear hydraulic tank with oil to the correct level. See the Operation & Maintenance Manual for further information.Disassemble Transmission Charging Pump
