A 5P-8700 Lifting Bracket 2 Start By:
Remove the HEUI fluid manifold. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "HEUI Fluid Manifold - Remove and Install".
Remove the exhaust manifold. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "Exhaust Manifold - Remove and Install".
Keep all parts clean from contaminants.Contaminants may cause rapid wear and shortened component life.
Care must be taken to ensure that fluids are contained during performance of inspection, maintenance, testing, adjusting and repair of the product. Be prepared to collect the fluid with suitable containers before opening any compartment or disassembling any component containing fluids.Refer to Special Publication, NENG2500, "Caterpillar Dealer Service Tool Catalog" for tools and supplies suitable to collect and contain fluids on Caterpillar products.Dispose of all fluids according to local regulations and mandates.

Install Tool (A) on the cylinder head. Remove nuts (1) that hold the cylinder head to the block.

Remove cylinder head (2). The weight of the cylinder head for the 3412E is 172 kg (380 lb).The weight of the cylinder head for the 3408E is 90 kg (200 lb).

Remove spacer plate (5) from the cylinder block.
